When the product is injected into localised fat, it disintegrates the fat cells by rupture of the cell wall or membrane. The disruption of the fat cell elicits a response in which the cellular debris is cleared away by the body’s natural processes, hence the immediate swelling. This response is also likely to strengthen the skin and increase production of collagen in the injected area. Reduction of the fat and tightening of the skin can result in a more contoured neck profile and jawline.
This treatment is indicated for patients with moderate to severe fullness in the ‘double chin’ area due to submental fat. After assessment of the area, if you are deemed suitable for treatment, the doctor or registered nurse will customise the treatment to your individual anatomy.
Most people will require a minimum of 2-4 treatments for optimum results, but up to 6 treatments may be required. The treatments are spaced approximately 6 weeks apart to allow for side effects to resolve and processing of the destroyed fat cells.
The treatment is designed to be a permanent, however changes in weight may disrupt the appearance of the submental fat in the future.
